These traditional style Chinese porcelain tea cups are used in formal tea ceremonies and are designed to keep your tea hot. The lid prevents heat from escaping off the top surface of the tea, while the saucer has an indentation, or reservoir, which helps to insulate the cup against the colder surface of a table. It also acts as a catch for water that collects on the lid. As you drink the tea the lid can be left on the saucer, which drips into the saucer's reservoir. The reservoir will also catch tea or hot water that is spilled as it is poured into the cup. This is an ancient technique that has been employed in China for thousands of years, and still works well today.
Our three piece set includes a cup, lid, and saucer for brewing loose tea.
